Galway Film Fleadh
Founded in 1989, in the third largest and the fastest-growing city in Ireland, on the country’s bucolic west coast, the Galway Film Fleadh ("festival" in Irish) showcases new Irish cinema alongside international films.Described as Ireland's leading film festival, the six-day event is held every July, and is very much a filmmakers' festival, attracting scores of directors, cinematographers, screenwriters, and artists to the event each year. Indiewire has covered Galway twice before, and marveled at the hospitality of its staff, the low-stress and intimate atmosphere, and the focus the event puts on serving its local community, which is typically without a year-round venue for arthouse cinema - which invariably leads to packed screenings and appreciative audiences. Despite its focus on Galwegians, the Film Fleadh boasts international visitors to celebrate cinema and to attend the Galway Film Fair, an annual development and co-production market that brings writers and producers together with financiers and distribution executives from all over the world to pitch their projects.
