Melbourne International Film Festival
The largest film festival in Australia, with nearly 200,000 attendees annually, the Melbourne International Film Festival showcases both new Australian cinema and international films.MIFF presents a huge program of around 400 films over the course of about three weeks each year which can make choosing what to see a somewhat daunting challenge. The festival is mostly non-competitive save for its short film competition. Last year, the festival made headlines around the world after showing a documentary about Uighur resistance in China, prompting an international row which resulted in the Asian giant pulling its films from the festival.
