Mill Valley Film Festival

Heading into its 33rd annual event in 2010, the Mill Valley Film Festival brings the fest experience to the northern Bay Area, namely the Marin County towns of Mill Valley and San Rafael. It's still run by the man who founded the festival in 1978, Mark Fishkin. The event is non-competitive, and focuses on a broad range of independent and world cinema in its programming. A highlight of the annual eleven-day MVFF is its striking home at the Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center, the year round home for the California Film Institute, which presents the festival. Organizers tout more than 40,000 tickets sold for the non-competitive event. As the most prominent fall film festival in the San Francisco Bay Area, the MVFF has been known to draw industry presence to support the fall launches of significant new films, Oscar campaigns, and films that have not yet secured domestic distribution.
