San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival

The largest of its kind in America, the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival attracts independent and established filmmakers alike. Ang Lee paid a visit last year, and in its nearly three decades, the festival has been on the forefront of Asian-American cinema. Born in 1980 "to counteract negative images and stereotypes of Asian Americans in mainstream media," the festival has attracted not only its obvious target audience, but non-Asian as well, and it has extended its reach to neighboring cities in the Bay Area.
