Synopsis: How does a white boy with Alabama roots become a Flamenco guitarist in Andalusian boots? A tale of self-invention and the pursuit of happiness, regardless of the cost to others. [Synopsis courtesy of Sundance Film Festival]
a beautiful and moving docuemntary. the film is structured so well that it gets the maximum emotional reaction from the audience who is moved to tears and laughs out loud.
well done.
Powerful, uncompromising journey-story of a daughter in search for her father, of a girl-woman in search for her roots, of a gipsy-child for the place she will finally belong to... Could not stop thinking about it. Her honesty is like a punch in your stomach: it shakes up everything you have inside.
This powerful, deeply beautiful film did the exquisite, near-impossible for me, creating and documenting an awkward, steadily candid attempted daughter-father dialogue. Through its humor, its visual preciseness, its music and its careful compassion, I could seriously share the director-daughter's very personal and abiding anger, pain, sadness and puzzlement without flinching. It continues to resonate and I know for sure that I'll be viewing/experiencing it again and again.
