Full-Time News Editor

Indiewire is seeking a full-time, New York-based news writer-editor who will oversee and shape the site's coverage of breaking and trending news in the independent film industry.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the independent film world and relationships with its players. Excellent writing and editing skills are key, of course; so is an appetite for breaking news, investigative reporting and balancing speed with accuracy. Preference will be given to candidates with strong and demonstrable news writing experience.

You should be familiar with industry's news cycle as well as the players and the major issues facing independent film, including financing, DIY, distribution, production and legal. You'll also be responsible for festival news coverage and for the care and feeding of the Filmmaker Toolkit, Indiewire's growing section of articles devoted to helping independent filmmakers understand how to navigate their industry.

In addition to a substantial writing commitment, the job's responsibilities include assigning articles to freelancers and editing articles from both the Indiewire staff and the freelance pool. National and international travel as needed for coverage of major festivals.

The ideal candidate has at least five years' experience covering the independent film industry, demonstrated news judgment, solid news-writing experience and is a driven self-starter who's also happy working collaboratively with a small, tight-knit team. We offer competitive compensation.

To be considered for the position, please send a cover letter, resume and links to three of your best clips to dana@indiewire.com, with INDIEWIRE NEWS EDITOR in the subject line.
