Called "brutal, urgent, devastating" by Manohla Dargis in Wednesday's New York Times review, Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stern's "The Devil Came on Horseback" opened Wednesday night in Manhattan where (left to right) Sundberg, doc subject Brian Steidle, and Stern celebrated their debut with a benefit screening downtown. In the same review, despite a few critiques, Dargis said that the film "demands to be seen as soon as possible and by as many viewers as possible." Chatting with indieWIRE at the after-party, Steidle (who will be participating in post-screening Q & A's this weekend at the IFC Center) called the movie, "a very effective tool for change," explaining that while awarness and action against the situation in Darfur is hot happening fast enough, but its heading in the right direction.
