Doc legend Albert Maysles (let) at the Cinema Eye Awards cocktail party. “In a fiction film, the director is god, in a non-fiction film, God is the director,” Al Maysles said, on stage on Sunday night in New York City, quoting Alfred Hitcock. Continuing, before announcing the best director award for Ari Folman (“Waltz With Bashir”), he added, “It’s nice to know that you have someday that important on your side!”
