Sid & Nancy
by indieWIRE (April 20, 2006)
In New York on Wednesday night before jetting out to L.A. for their Hollywood premiere are husband-and-wife producing team Sid Ganis and Nancy Hult Ganis. The two are pictured at Osteria del Circo after a special screening of "Akeelah and the Bee," the movie that they've spent years bringing to the big screen. Sid Ganis, president of AMPAS, explained that he first heard about the script in 2000 when writer/director Doug Atchison won the Academy's Nicholl Fellowship for the film. He quickly pursued the project and years later finally raised the money from Lionsgate and 2929 Entertainment. The film will screen next week at the Tribeca Film Festival before opening soon in theaters.
