    Palm Pictures to Canvas "Who Gets to Call it Art?" in North American and Caribbean Theaters in '06

    Palm Pictures announced Thursday it has acquired North American and Caribbean rights to Peter Rosen's feature film "Who Gets to Call it Art?" The deal was negotiated by David Koh, head of acquisitions and production for Palm Pictures and Arthouse Films and David G. Lubell of Propp Lubell & Lapidus on behalf of Rosen of Peter Rosen Productions. Palm Pictures plans a theatrical release in early 2006 followed by a DVD release under the Arthouse Films label.     Shadow Distribution to Open "The Beauty Academy of Kabul" in the U.S.

    Shadow Distribution will handle the U.S. release of Liz Mermin's doc "The Beauty Academy of Kabul," which will open in New York at the Angelika Film Center on March 24 and in Los Angeles in April. Other cities will follow, according to the company.     The Weinstein Company has acquired the rights to develop and produce a feature film based on the original hit television series "The Equalizer" in which Robert McCall, a veteran covert operative seeking redemption for his darker exploits, quits a CIA-like agency and puts an advertisement in the newspaper that reads, "Got a problem?     Fortissimo Gets "Wisdom"

    Fortissimo Films has announced its investment in and acquisition of worldwide sales rights outside of Asia to Jacob Cheung's "A Battle of Wisdom." Andy Lau will star in the historical martial arts epic with Korean actor Ahn Sung-ki, Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing, Chinese actor Wang Zhiwen, and Choi Si-won.
