    Weinstein Company Takes Rights to Produce "The Equalizer"

    The Weinstein Company has acquired the rights to develop and produce a feature film based on the original hit television series "The Equalizer" in which Robert McCall, a veteran covert operative seeking redemption for his darker exploits, quits a CIA-like agency and puts an advertisement in the newspaper that reads, "Got a problem? Odds against you? Call 'The Equalizer.'" The announcement was made today by Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company.     Fortissimo Gets "Wisdom"

    Fortissimo Films has announced its investment in and acquisition of worldwide sales rights outside of Asia to Jacob Cheung's "A Battle of Wisdom." Andy Lau will star in the historical martial arts epic with Korean actor Ahn Sung-ki, Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing, Chinese actor Wang Zhiwen, and Choi Si-won. The $16 million film began production in September and is based on a popular animated series about China's warlord period, according to an announcement.     Strand Releasing has acquired all US rights to Fatih Akin's "Crossing the Bridge" from Bavaria Film International, the company announced Wednesday. Strand co-president John Gerrans negotiated the deal prior to the opening of the American Film Market (AFM) with Thorsten Schaumann, head of Bavarian Film International.
