FESTIVALS: New Directors/New Films Unveils 2000 Slate

(indieWIRE/2.28.2000) -- 22 Feature films and 13 shorts will screen at the 2000 installment of New York's New Directors/New Films, the 29th annual showcase presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Department of Film and Video at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The event will run at MoMA from March 24th to April 9th (The complete lineup is published today at indieWIRE.com).

Frederic Fonteyne's Fine Line Features release, "A Pornographic Affair," and Shinobu Yaguchi's Shooting Gallery release, "Adrenaline Drive," will open the Festival. A handful of Sundance 2000 films are included in the lineup, including Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato's "The Eyes of Tammy Faye," Luis Estrada's "Herod's Law," Lauren Cantet's "Human Resources," Lee Myung-Se' Korean film, "Nowhere to Hide," Jim McKay's "Our Song," Zhang Yang's "Shower," Josh Aronson and Roger Weisberg's "Sound and Fury." Screening in a special three-film shorts program is Peter Sollett's Sundance award-winner, "Five Feet High and Rising" (an additional 10 short films have not yet been announced). Other notable festival selections include Alison Maclean's Lions Gate release, "Jesus Son," Lynne Ramsay's British film, "Ratcatcher," and Lou Ye's "Souzhou River."

New Directors/New Films was programmed by Joanne Koch, Marian Masone & Richard Pena of the Film Society and Mary Lee Bandy, Jytte Jensen & Laurence Kardish from MoMA. Two film programs will screen nightly for the duration of the Festival, with each movie screening twice.
