Nelson's "Hauling Toto Big," Marcotte's "The Sickroom," and Green's "Rainbow Man" Take Top Ann Arbor Prizes; Other Winners Announced

The 36th Ann Arbor Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday ending a six-day run in Ann Arbor, Michigan. According to organizers, over 40 filmmakers attended the event from around the United States and Canada (one even visited from New Zealand. 113 of the 371 entries submitted were screened.

Robert Nelson's "Hauling Toto Big" took the "Best of the Festival" award, earning a $2,000 prize, while Serge Marcotte won the Best Narrative Film award for "The Sickroom" and Sam Green took the Best Documentary prize for "The Rainbow Man/ John 3:16."

Arhtur Dong's "Licensed to Kill" won the Best Gay/Lesbian Film Award. and Eva Llona Brzeski took the Most Promising Filmmaker prize for "24 Girls." The Best Animated Film award went to Jim Trainor for "The Fetishist."

Finally, the award for Best Experimental Film went to Mike Hoolboom for "Passing On" and the Most Technically Innovative Film prize was shared by Kevin Everson for "Eleven Eighty Two" and Luke Jaeger for "5 Dreams."

This jurors for the 1998 Ann Arbor Film Festival were: experimental filmmaker Dominic Angerame, documentary filmmaker Jan Krawitz & experimental animator Christopher Sullivan.
