(Jun 07, 2005) Magnolia Takes Rights to Kurosawa's "Pulse" from Dimension/Miramax
Magnolia Pictures has acquired rights to Kiyoshi Kurosawa's J-horror film, "Pulse," the company announced Monday. In addition to all English-language territories, Magnolia also has rights to as Mexico, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Spain. The film was acquired from Dimension and Miramax which originally acquired it (along with remake rights) when it premiered in Un Certain Regard at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. Magnolia plans a mid-August release. Brian Brooks reports.
(Jun 07, 2005) IFC Films Gets Von Trier's "Manderlay," And Bier's Latest "After the Wedding"
IFC Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Lars von Trier's latest film, "Manderlay," Jonathan Sehring, president of IFC Entertainment announced Monday. The film is the second installment in von Trier's trilogy, "USA - Land of Opportunities," and screened in competition at the recent Cannes Film Festival. Additionally, IFC announced it has also acquired U.S. rights to Susanne Bier's "After The Wedding," which is currently in production in India and Denmark. Negotiations for both projects were completed with Trust Films at the Cannes Film Festival. Both films will be added to IFC's 2005 release slate.
