Daniels Speaks Out: "My films are more important to me than my family, my health, my boyfriend..."
Director/producer Lee Daniels brought out the crowds Friday evening at the Apple Store in SoHo to talk about his career and give his two cents on how to tackle the film industry (among other topics). "This is an industry built on nepotism and the chances you have a relative working in the industry is nil, so you have to just break down those doors and make a statement - it's hard..." Daniels also admitted to being something of a workaholic when he takes on a project, including his latest film, "Precious" (formerly "Push") which won the jury and audience awards at Sundance earlier this year and will next be shown in Cannes (Lionsgate will release the film this autumn). "This is probably politically incorrect to say, but [my films] are more important to me than my family, my health, my boyfriend... They're the most important thing in my life while they're [in production]." And next up for Daniels? "Right now I'm in a musical moment... Drag queens, butterflies and music..."
