Basement Jaxx Soundtrack For 'Attack The Block' Gets U.K. Release Date

Scores for films are no longer just the domain for classically driven composers. The past year has seen a crop of electronic-based artists take the reins with Daft Punk and Chemical Brothers powering "Tron: Legacy" and "Hanna," respectively, while Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor surprised ever...

'Attack The Block' Picked Up By Screen Gems For U.S. Distribution

So much for scaring off potential distributors. SXSW hit and potential genre classic "Attack the Block" has found a home, and it's a fairly nice one. Screen Gems, Sony's smaller genre division, has stepped up to the plate to distribute director Joe Cornish's thrilling debut film, an alien invasion t...

2 New Clips From SXSW Alien Invasion Hit 'Attack The Block' Debut

It's been about three weeks since Joe Cornish's alien invasion flick "Attack The Block" debuted at SXSW to rapturous reviews (including our own) and the film is still without a U.S. distribution deal. The film screened last week in L.A. to similarly positive notices, possibly hoping to gain some mor...

'Attack The Block' Unleashes A Poster

Joe Cornish's "Attack The Block" came to SXSW and conquered, hands down. Wowing audiences in Austin, the film -- partly inspired by a carjacking Cornish suffered in 2001, and partly by both M. Night Shyamalan‘s “Signs” and John Sayles’ unmade script “Dark Skies” -- the film mixes newcomers, most not...

For the third year in a row The Playlist team descended down on the coolest little town in Texas and were w...

Subtitle & Remake Rumors Circle 'Attack The Block'

This doesn't happen very often, but a note made in a week old article in THR has touched off a firestorm of sorts around "Attack The Block," the well-received alien-invasion flick by Joe Cornish that debuted at SXSW this past week (fyi, we loved it). In the article, written prior to the film's premiere in Austin, the trade noted that the Brit street slang was making potential distributors worried and that, "there is talk of having subtitles for any North American release." Additionally, THR said that "there is even excited talk of getting the movie's remake rights and making a U.S. version of the film." Of course, some film sites went into ov...

SXSW: "I Don't Think It's Too Horrific" & More Learned From 'Attack The Block' Director Joe Cornish

By all accounts, it's been a remarkably strong SXSW festival so far, with a number of films picking up extremely positive buzz, or adding to the buzz that was already behind them. First and foremost among them was "Attack the Block." We've been looking forward to Joe Cornish's directorial debut ever...

SXSW Review: 'Attack The Block' An Intense, Entertaining Alien Invasion Pic Buoyed By Its Young Cast

Claustrophobia breeds suspense in science fiction, whether it be on a dank space ship like in “Alien” or a distant desert outpost like Richard Stanley‘s “Hardware.” In “Attack The Block,” which shares some DNA with the two films, we experience what might be a global invasion of serious concern, but ...
