First Look At Rachel McAdams On The Set Of Brian De Palma’s ‘Passion’ Reveal Her Pensively Clutching A Bag

Since it seems like Brian De Palma has almost, sort-of, maybe, nearly been attached to dozens of projects over the past decade, anytime actual physical evidence surfaces of him making a movie, it’s reason for celebration. It’s enough to make you want to scream, “It’s really happening!” at the top of...

'Sherlock Holmes' Star Paul Anderson Joins Brian De Palma's 'Passion'; Composer Pino Dinaggio Reunites With Helmer

There's Paul W.S. Anderson of 'Resident Evil' fame, and there's renowned helmer Paul Thomas Anderson. But we'll now have to throw in another Paul Anderson to the mix -- this time without a middle name or initials. The little-known actor is probably best recognized as Colonel Seba...

Brian DePalma, Jason Statham And William Goldman Team Up To Remake Burt Reynolds Vehicle 'Heat'

There's something curiously old-fashioned about Jason Statham as a movie star. He rarely, if ever, toplines tentpoles or mega-hits, plenty of his films tank badly, and he basically plays the same role every time. But he knocks out two, three, even four movies a year, bringing in a steady, reliab...

Rachel McAdams Joins New Brian De Palma Movie, March Start Date Set

For Brian De Palma fanatics, it's been an agonizingly long wait for another sexy, stylish spellbinder. His last feature was 2007 incendiary "Redacted," which was a noble failure, but a failure just the same. Honestly, we can only watch our Criterion "Blow Out" Blu-rays s...

Brian De Palma To Direct Thriller 'The Key Man'

Brian De Palma has been MIA for the past little while, but not without reason. In 2006 and 2007 he delivered a double whammy of disappointments in failed noir "The Black Dahlia" and the Iraq war drama "Redacted" and he's been trying to get something going ever since. Things were in motion for him to direct his long-gestating psychological thriller “Toyer” last fall, but it looks like the project never quite got off the ground and at the beginning of the year he signed on to direct a remake of Alain Corneau’s "Love Crime" though nothing has been heard about that since. So hopefully, this next project will actually see it's way through to rolli...

When Celebrated Directors Lose The Plot: Interesting Left Turns And Failures In An Auteur's Oeuvre

Even the greatest of auteurs in cinema generally take one or two big missteps in their careers, either early on -- as happened to a lot of the Easy Riders/Raging Bulls generation of American filmmakers, bringing their hirsute hubris down to earth with a bump -- or later, when poor judgement and a degree of fossilisation can cloud a director’s vision -- see Quentin Tarantino’s remarks, for example, about not wanting to be a "geriatric" filmmaker, making films deep into his old age because this is when filmmakers generally lose their mojo, or Steven Soderbergh’s early retirement plans, which he hopes will see him...

Book Review: 'Shock Value' Is The Must-Read Film Book Of The Summer

Much has been written about the film revolution that took place during the 1970’s – when the studio system crumbled in inconceivable ways and a brood of bold young filmmakers, most of them wily, many of them bearded, forever changed the landscape of the film industry. But far less has been written about the seismic shift in genre films during the same period. Thankfully, Jason Zinoman, a crack film writer for the New York Times (he did last weekend’s great John Carpenter profile), has come forward to present a compelling and well researched look at those films in “Shock Value: How a Few Eccentric Outsiders Gave Us Nightmares, Conquered Hollyw...

Brian De Palma To Direct Remake Of Alain Corneau's 'Love Crime'

It's been quite a while since we've had a film from Brian De Palma. His last effort was the poorly received Iraq war drama "Redacted" and while last year it seemed like things were in motion for him to film his long-gestating psychological thriller "Toyer" in the fall, it looks like the project neve...
