Watch: Jennifer Garner Campaigns For Her 'Butter' In Clip From Film

Well, this is a bit surprising. Even though it was reported just a couple of weeks ago that The Weinstein Company were going to give "Butter" a one-week Oscar qualifying run in October before a wide release in 2012, the sudden launch of a website for the film, complete with a clip from the movie (be...

Diablo Cody Not Happy About Bobcat Goldthwait's New Film, Less Concerned About 'Butter'

Oscar-Winning Screenwriter Finds Herself Part Of 2 Movies At TIFFFor some reason, Diablo Cody seems to have the knives pointed at her more easily (and unfairly) than other screenwriters. Say what you will about the Oscar-winning pen behind "Juno," but her voice is unique and frankly we'd take a Cody project over something from overrated, middle-of-the-road scribes like Allan Loeb or Aline Brosh McKenna any day of the week. But it certainly reveals something about Cody's presence in Hollywood that she has found herself part of two movies that recently played TIFF and in one case she's not happy, while in the other it seems she's apparently les...

'Butter' To Get One Week Run In 2011 Before Wide Release In 2012

'Everybody Loves Whale' Changes Title To 'Big Miracle,' Sets February 2012 DateArriving in Telluride as a surprise screening, it wasn't quite clear if "Butter" was going to be a dark horse Oscar contender, a "Little Miss Sunshine"-esque crowd pleaser or something in between. Certainly the premise is ripe for quirky indie hit, as the story follows Laura (Jennifer Garner), the wife of former butter sculpting champion Bob (Ty Burrell), who tries to take the mantle from her husband only to be thwarted by a young adopted African American girl (Yara Shahidi), who has discovered that she has a natural talent for making art out of butter. Hell, it ev...

TIFF '11 Review: 'Butter' Tries To Carve Up Edgy Laughs But Goes Soft By The End

A political satire set in the competitive world of butter-carving at the Iowa state fair, the script for "Butter" was so ballyhooed and praised of that it wound up on The Black List, the annual underground buzz list of unproduced screenplays based on a straw poll of agents, development executives an...

Telluride '11 Review: Jennifer Garner's 'Butter' Churns and Churns But Doesn’t Produce Cream

Ostensibly an edgy satire that fancies itself having a wicked bite, Jennifer Garner’s pet-project “Butter,” instead employs long and broad satirical strokes that never land many effective laughs or blows. You know a comedy is seriously in trouble when there are long, uncomfortable stretches where no...

    Telluride Adds Jennifer Garner's 'Butter'

Part of the fun of the prestigious Telluride Film Festival is its secret lineup that's only revealed at the last minute, as only yesterday, did organizers reveal the slate of programming -- less than 24 hours before the event kicked off today. As longtime attendees know, there are usually one or two...

New Photo: Jennifer Garner Carves A Car Out Of 'Butter'; Long-Form Synopsis Released

One of the biggest question marks at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival slate is The Weinstein Company comedy, "Butter." It's a curious picture for several reasons. It's not entirely clear if it's a drama, dramedy or comedy, but the TIFF website firmly says comedy (with elements of "identity" and "politics"), so fine then, maybe it incorporates all those elements. The TIFF site isn't helping either, as one of the loglines say the principal cast is the family at the center of the picture that's played by Jennifer Garner and Ty Burrell, plus the African American girl Yara Shahidi, who ends up as a nemesis to Garner's character. M...
