Toronto and the Fall Market Season Begins (The Real Rights List)

Now that everyone has listed the new titles announced for Toronto, Venice and San Sebastian, Locarno is over, Rome is waiting in the wings, and Telluride has finally told, I would like to do a survey of some films' sales' stats. IM Global is treating Toronto as an all-out market. The sales agents as well as the publicists are positioning their films via email to the trade. I just saw White Wedding by Jann Turner ♀ which is being sold in the "market" as well by The Little Film Company and its positive review in L.A. Times. It is very timely and enjoyable, at the same time touches ever more present issues of race and equality, this time in ...

Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival

LALIFF kicked off its 5 day festival last night with a great audience pleaser, Venezuelan film by first time director (and writer), Marcel Rasquin, HERMANO, audience and jury prize winner from Moscow FF and rumored to be headed toward Telluride. The international sales agent EuropaCorp (whose Luc Besson was president of the Moscow jury when the film won Moscow International Film Festival's top prize, the Golden George), was uncertain that it wanted the film to show in this festival where it had been promised before EuropaCorp was in the picture. But the filmmaker must have prevailed and a packed house at Mann's Grauman Chinese was lucky to ...

Women to Blog About: Stacey Parks – Giving Back to the Filmmakers

Stacey is L.A. based. She’s a Miami native and received her B.A in Economics from the University Of Florida. She then earned her International MBA from Pepperdine University in Malibu. ‘I always loved business. I am not a filmmaker rather, I am business trained so that’s my basic outlook in all my film work.’Stacey began in the ‘biz’ by working for 4 years at the William Morris Agency in indie film packaging. She went on to work as a Producer both in TV and film. Then, as an international sales agent for many years, she ‘sold independent films’ (i.e. secured distribution) for a wide range of the best international and US domestic compa...

Rights Round Up Cannes 2010 by International Sales Agent: A-C

One of the most popular reports I publish is the Rights Roundup to show the trade who sold what to whom during the market (Cannes in this case). The ISAs (international sales agents) are all linked to their own websites. I wish all of the distribution companies who pick up the films for their territories (there are about 40 territories) and all the titles were also linked, but I lack the manpower to do the job 100% so only some are linked to their own company websites, or in the case of titles, to IMDbPro Title Pages. This reports allows sales agents to gauge their competitors, see who is buying similar types of films, and it allows buyers...
