Producers to Watch: AFM Works! Sean Anthony McConville

As I was getting my badge at AFM, I met a British filmmaker who lives in Toronto and his success two years ago at AFM has brought him back again. Sean Anthony McConville of Mach2Films came to AFM two years ago with a project Deadline and with his producing partner Roger Betterton made a deal with Kru From Malaysia based on getting certain cast. His producer succeeded in casting Brittany Murphy and Thora Birch in Sean’s $2 million debut film and they received an advance from their sales agents epic pictures when the film was completed. Epic to date has sold the film to 35 countries. The U.S. release was by First Look. Its first release w...

Eurimages - The Council of Europe - Roberto Olla Part I

Roberto Olla, Executive Director, EurimagesIt has been stated that co-productions are driving world production these days, and I have been urging U.S. producers to look at the opportunities that international coproductions offer them. While it is not their salvation, nor is it the right path for all indie producers; it is creating a new and exciting vitality in world cinema. Given the major studios’ current investing in international productions and their film acquisitions to supply a pipeline for their off shore operations; given the German and French financial encouragement for English language coproductions, over the last couple of years...

By guest blogger Peter Belsito:Jonathan Dana is an independent producer and former distribution executive currently at CODE Entertainment. He is known for the quality and number of his productions and his longevity in the L.A. and international film business at the highest levels. Also a good guy and friend. More than just a friend, he introduced us to the founders of Withoutabox, David Straus and Joe Neulight, in 2000. Jonathan was one of the original investors in WAB and supervised the launch of WAB with Joe and David. Six years later reminded us to give them a call. Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival

LALIFF kicked off its 5 day festival last night with a great audience pleaser, Venezuelan film by first time director (and writer), Marcel Rasquin, HERMANO, audience and jury prize winner from Moscow FF and rumored to be headed toward Telluride. The international sales agent EuropaCorp (whose Luc Besson was president of the Moscow jury when the film won Moscow International Film Festival's top prize, the Golden George), was uncertain that it wanted the film to show in this festival where it had been promised before EuropaCorp was in the picture. But the filmmaker must have prevailed and a packed house at Mann's Grauman Chinese was lucky to ...
