Watch: International Trailer For 'Great Expectations' Starring Ralph Fiennes & Helena Bonham Carter

Literary adaptations are always a hot item in the fall season when more serious films come out to play, and that's no different in 2012. With "Les Miserables" (based on a book, turned into a stage musical and now a movie), "Anna Karenina" and "Life of Pi" all expected to make big waves in the coming...

New Images Of Ralph Fiennes & Helena Bonham Carter In 'Great Expectations'

It's the centenary year of famed author Charles Dickens and he's having a bit of a moment. The writer was dipped into the world of fanboys when Christopher Nolan revealed during press rounds for "The Dark Knight Rises" that "A Tale Of Two Cities" was an influence on the B...

Jason Flemyng Joins Ralph Fiennes & Jeremy Irvine In Mike Newell's 'Great Expectations'

With 2012 marking the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens' birth, it's no surprise that there's a whole spate of Dickens-related projects in the works. Ralph Fiennes, for instance, is directing biopic "The Invisible Woman," "Oliver Twist" is getting a 21st century spin in British 3D parkour actioner "Twist" (don't blame us, we didn't come up with the thing...) and even Guillermo del Toro wants to get involved at some stage, developing an adaptation of Dan Simmons' novel "Drood," which investigates the horrifying secret behind Dickens' last, unfinished work. And of course, there are straight adaptations on the way too, most notably a pair of ...

Ray Winstone & Gillian Anderson To Star In Sexed-Up 'Great Expectations' For Brit TV

A zeitgeisty role like Agent Dana Scully may cast a long shadow, but Gillian Anderson seems determined not to have the first line of her obituary read “that redheaded gal off 'The X-Files.'" Lurching in recent years between respectable British TV costume dramas and mirthless crime fare (“Straightheads” won’t be one to tell the grandkids about), Anderson is now in talks to take the most iconic role in a new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel “Great Expectations” as Miss Haversham, alongside eternal Cockney bruiser Ray Winstone as the novel's duplicitous Magwitch. Like everything else nowadays, though, don’t expect this to be your mot...

Jeremy Irvine & Helena Bonham Carter Circle Mike Newell's 'Great Expectations'

Mike Newell In Talks To Direct New Version Of Charles Dickens' 'Great Expectations'

Script From 'One Day' Writer David NichollsMike Newell is a frustrating guy. The kind of genre-hopping director we normally take to our hearts at The Playlist, but with more unpredictable results than helmers like Michael Winterbottom and Steven Soderbergh, it seems that for every good Newell film, there's a terrible counterpart. He was behind the classic mob drama "Donnie Brasco," but also the deathly dull Marquez adaptation "Love in the Time of Cholera," he helmed both seminal rom-com "Four Weddings and a Funeral" and the awful "Mona Lisa Smile," and even his tentpole history is checkered: he directed both one of the better "Harry Potter" e...
