Hans Zimmer Talks Scoring 'The Dark Knight Rises' & Says He's Not Confirmed For 'Man Of Steel'

During his 27 years in Hollywood, Hans Zimmer has produced hundreds of film scores, sometimes five or six in the span of one year. But what’s interesting about his work is that it’s become more eclectic and undefinable, not less, as his career has progressed. Listening to his more recent...

Hans Zimmer Decides To Sit Out The Oscar Race This Year

With eight Academy award nominations leading to one win for "The Lion King," composer Hans Zimmer certainly doesn't have anything to prove. Prolific and inventive, he's one of the best in the business, and even with nearly three decades of work tuning up movies, his works remain continually fresh and creative. This year alone has the fifty-four year-old composer taking some fascinating strides, teaming with the Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo Y Gabriela for both "Rango" and “Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” Of course, we don't have to tell you that the man behind the excellent scores for (the Oscar nominated) "Inception" and "The Dark...

Review: 'Lion King 3D' Maintains All of the Majesty of the Original, With Added Dimensional Sparkle

A few years ago, Disney planned a theatrical release for a 3D version of "Beauty & the Beast," using the cutting edge, post-"Avatar" technology that we've all come to know so well (and sometimes dread just as much). The conversion took place, at great expense, but the theatrical engagement (originally set for February, 2010) never materialized. Still, the studio pressed ahead (Walt always said that good ideas never die), and this week the studio's traditionally animated crown jewel "The Lion King," in a shiny new 3D format, will get a proper release – in 2,000 3D screens across the country. But what does a 3D version of a traditionally animat...

Hans Zimmer Says He's Listening To Verdi & Goldfrapp As He Prepares 'The Dark Knight Rises' Score

Though it's been known for a while now and pretty much expected, back in May it was confirmed that Hans Zimmer would once again reteam with Christopher Nolan for his currently filming "The Dark Knight Rises." The interesting bit was that James Newton Howard -- who worked with Zimmer on "The Dark Knight" -- was not returning to the fold, but that Zimmer was striking out on his own as he did for "Inception." Of course details surrounding the film remain tight and even trying to get a composer to describe his score this early in the game usually leads to ambiguous descriptions -- Zimmer told MTV earlier this year that it will be "epic" and "icon...

Review: 'Rango' Is A Sweetly Surreal Animated Western

It's strange to think that Gore Verbinski, an accomplished visual stylist who began in commercials (he was responsible for those "Bud-weis-er" talking bullfrog ads), would want to follow up the daunting and problem-plagued back-to-back shoots of the two latter 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movies with ...

Hans Zimmer & Mexican Guitar Duo Rodrigo Y Gabriela Teaming For 'On Stranger Tides' Score

Soundtrack Will Hit Stores On May 17thHans Zimmer has certainly never been any slouch, but lately, the composer seems to have been newly inspired in a way some of his other longstanding contemporaries haven't been. His work for Christopher Nolan on "The Dark Knight" and the Oscar-nominated "Inceptio...

2011 Oscar Nominations: 'The King's Speech' Leads The Pack With 12 Nominations

"The King's Speech" sits on the throne this morning, earning 12 Oscar nominations and looking like the film to beat at the 83rd Academy Awards, while "True Grit" follows with 10 nods and "The Social Network" with 8. Not much in the way of shockers this year, but some pleasant surprises in the mix as...

Hans Zimmer Not Scoring Zack Snyder's 'Superman: Man Of Steel'

"It’s A Little Bit Like Guilty By Association," The Composer Says Of False ReportLast week when it was reported that Hans Zimmer was tapped to score Zack Snyder's "Superman: Man of Steel," we knew something was off (hence the fact we didn't report it; it just smelled hinkey).
