Arnold Schwarzenegger Signs Up For 'The Last Stand' With Kim Ji-woon, Filming Starts In September

'Cry Macho' On Hold Or Possibly DeadIt has been a pretty ugly year for Arnold Schwarzenegger thus far. While it started off promisingly with the former Governor heading back into films with his choice of plum projects, things quickly took a downward spiral. His proposed cartoon "The Governator" was a complete embarrassment and then the scandal and subsequent divorce proceedings by his ex-wife Maria Shriver caused all Arnie projects to be put on hold. Well, there's no better way back into the hearts of America than by blowing some shit up and while he was initially tipped to do the far more sensitive horse trainer drama thingy "Cry Macho" that...

Arnie Considering Big-Screen Comeback In Ji-Woon Kim's 'Last Stand' & Antoine Fuqua's 'The Tomb'

Limited by a two-term limit as governor, his inability to run for President (due to being born in Austria), and the fact that he fucked up the California economy royally, legendary action star Arnold Schwarzenegger's flirtation with politics seemed to come to an end at the start of this year. But as...

Exclusive: Last week we ran a bit of news concerning Kim Ji-woon’s gestating Hollywood debut “The Last Stand” with new-fangled/old-bodied action star Liam Neeson, also spilling the beans on an early personal project the filmmaker is working on himself. Here’s the rest of our interview, in which the director discusses his chilling thriller “I Saw the Devil.” We reviewed the film during Sundance and it’s an early best of the year, an unforgettable account of human nature at its ugliest. In our conversation, Kim speaks of the emotional core he was interested in, plus the different layers to the title and his affection for David Fincher’s “Zodiac...

Sundance '11 Review: 'I Saw The Devil' Is Ugly, Gratuitous, Sad, Brutal, Complex, And Terrific

Revenge flicks are generally easy for audiences to get behind -- show a person devastatingly wronged and we're down to see him get some payback. The directors, just like us, don't necessarily take a deep look into the utter meaninglessness of violent retribution, that is aside from some thrown around lines like "It won't bring her back, Michael!" Instead, we're all more interested in the thrill. There's been a few pictures to examine its fruitlessness, (Jeff Nichols's "Shotgun Stories" comes to mind) but leave it to Ji-Woon Kim, the Korean director who somehow is responsible for one of the best Westerns in the last decade (TIFF 2008 hit, "The...
