My Favorite Films Of 2011: Kevin Jagernauth

The annual top ten list is pretty much an exercise in futility to some degree. With a race to cram in as many movies as possible as the clock on the year winds down (and let it be said, I didn't get to see everything I would have wanted to) combined with the added duty of then ranking them, it&#...

    Best Films of 2011

If there were ever a year to be wimpy and declare a tie, this would have been it: choosing between my Number 1 and Number 2 films was just silly. One is big, the other smaller; both are ambitious and perfectly made, but in wildly different ways. I adore them both.

Aki Kaurismaki's 'Le Havre' The First Of A Trilogy, Director Plans Future Entries In Spain & Germany

While "The Artist" is currently the foreign film/arthouse darling, with Oscar in its sights and audiences lining up to see it, we do hope Aki Kaurismaki's beautiful and brilliant "Le Havre" doesn't get lost in the chatter this fall. The film premiered at Cannes to largely...

In Theaters: 'Paranormal Activity 3' Hopes To Scare Off 'The Three Musketeers' This Weekend

It’s almost Halloween, which means it’s time for terrible horror movies to rule at the box office. I’m surprised there aren’t more this year, but we do have the "Paranormal Activity" franchise taking the Halloween crown from “Saw,” which I think we’ve seen the last of for a good while, at least. Sev...

Le Havre is Finland’s official entry for this year’s Foreign Language Oscar, as it is the work of celebrated Finnish writer-director Aki Kaurismäki—yet it takes place in France, where it was shot with a nearly all-French cast. Let us agree, then, not to get caught up...

'Shame,' 'The Artist,' 'The Descendants,' 'Albert Nobbs' & More Journey To Telluride This Weekend

'Tinker Tailor Solider Spy' Remains MIA On North American Festival ShoresWhile Venice has kicked off the fall festival season in grand style, the awards season really starts with Telluride. Reactions from the hippie resort film festival have proven to be a crystal ball at both box office and awards season performance and for many studios, cause to tweak and adjust their fall plans accordingly based on what happens in Colorado. Moreover, with TIFF right around the corner, a strong showing at Telluride can often put a previously under the radar the film into a strong spotlight in Toronto. "Up In The Air," "Juno," "Slumdog Millionaire" and "Brok...
