As 'Battleship' Flops: Ten Other Memorable Box-Office Bombs

To have one giant money-losing tentpole is unfortunate. To have two starts to look careless, and that's what's happened to Taylor Kitsch. The actor, who broke out on TV's "Friday Night Lights," was seen as Hollywood's next great hope, picked out to star in two great big blo...

2011 By The Numbers: The Year In Box-Office Flops

No one likes to celebrate flops. No, really. OK, maybe when an arrogant, mouthy producer or star delivers a turd that had it coming, or some awful franchise finally stumbles, but especially in the latter case, when does that ever happen?

Weekend Box Office: 'Battle: Los Angeles' Invades Theaters And Takes $36 Million

Get those royalties to Johan Johannsson. It was the ad campaign for “Battle: Los Angeles” that helped this starless experiment hit number one. Showcasing disaster movie footage with that doc-film veirsimilitude to Johannsson’s over worldly drone certainly had an affect on moviegoers, as the film took the top spot at the box office with a solid $36 million. The film should be a sure thing for $100+, and if it has legs, even more. Sony reports the budget figure is $70 million, which smells like bullshit, but if it’s true, this weekend is good news all around. Unless you like good movies and hate bad ones, because this movie sucks the chrome of...

In Theaters: 'Battle: Los Angeles,' 'Red Riding Hood,' 'Mars Needs Moms'

Hollywood 2011 really has their release schedule down to a science thus far, spreading the love around for each tasty, tasty demographic. Those all-important 18-24 males? Why we have some aliens, musclebound dudes and subsequent explosions for you with "Battle: Los Angeles." That delicious teenage disposable income? How about Amanda Seyfried and an RPatz doppelganger sporting anachronistic hair product in a fairy tale setting? "Red Riding Hood" steamy enough for ya? And of course, the animated vehicle that sucks in not only the kids' tickets but mom, dad and nannies as well, in "Mars Needs Moms." Fun for everyone! But, but don't fret my pet! ...

Review: 'Mars Needs Moms' A Dead-Eyed Bore

Robert Zemeckis has spent the past few years, since 2004's uncanny valley-crossing "The Polar Express," trying to convince the movie-going public of the validity of his brand of motion capture animation. For the most part, audiences have resisted, but he still keeps plugging away. And even a new dea...

The Leftover Question Marks Of 2011 - Can These Films Possibly Be Any Good? Part 1

The Answer Is Probably Not, But Hey, What The Hell...Our exhausting coverage of the films coming out in 2011 continues and yes, we're tired, hungry and a bit cranky. We used to call this our Least Anticipated Films feature, but this year our New Year's resolution was to be a tiny bit more positive. Frankly, the sentiment applies, but this is also the leftover films of 2011 we just don't know what to do with. Many of them look abysmal, some of us glass-half-full Playlist types (yes, there are a few among us) think, "hey, that picture might not be so bad," while other members of the group stare in shock that such an idea could be possibly float...

You Know, For Kids: Trailers For 'Mars Needs Moms' & 'Hop'

We have to admit, if it isn't Pixar (or maybe DreamWorks), we sort of don't pay attention to animated films, but in the past couple of days trailers have landed for "Mars Needs Moms" and "Hop" which might be of interest for parents looking to entertain their kids next spring.
