    So Long, Eugene

I've already gone as sentimental as I should when his departure was announced last month, but today is the first day of indieWIRE without Eugene Hernandez and it just didn't seem appropriate to let that go by without a little note here. It really truly just ain't going to be same without you.

    Happy 39th Birthday, Winona Ryder

For the fourth time in this blog's history, I have the honor of congratulating my dear Winona Ryder on making it through another year of her conflicted fourth decade. The accidental beard of my boyhood, Ms. Ryder is 39 years old today. And once again, I plea with some casting director out there to ...

Giving Thanks In The Midst of a Challenging Time For Queer People Everywhere

I've failed to mention the horrifying suicide of Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi yet on this blog, or the attention it has brought to the fact that LGBT-related suicide and violence are an epidemic in the United States and around the world. My excuse is that the tragedy happened in the mid...

Then, Todd McCarthy got hired as the chief film critic at The Hollywood Reporter, leavin...

    Congratulations, indieWIRE

In my Berlin daze, I forgot to blog a happy birthday message to my dearest employer and friend, indieWIRE, who turned 14 last week. But since today is an even bigger day for ol' iW, I figured I do so belatedly before additionally congratulating them on some big news: Peter Bogdanovich will soon launch his own site as part of the indieWIRE Network of blogs and websites (called, yes, "Blogdanovich"), AND Chris Campbell has just joined us as the lead writer for the new Spout.com, a site that iW acquired earlier this year. A warm welcome to both. Additionally, indieWIRE has formally unveiled a number of new and enhanced ways to read our content ...

    The Opposite of Fabulous

Before I return to regularly scheduled blogging (mainly end-of-decade/end-of-year lists, of which I'm seriously lagging behind), I figured I should get some final Dubai-related thoughts out of the way.
