Ex-'The Hobbit' Actor Rob Kazinsky Joins Guillermo Del Toro's 'Pacific Rim,' Willem Dafoe In Talks

If you're cast in a major blockbuster, only to be replaced publicly, it can be hard to get your career back on track again. Stuart Townsend, for instance, shot scenes as Aragorn in "Lord of the Rings," before Peter Jackson decided he was too young, and replaced him with Viggo Mortensen. Townsend's heat remained for a little while -- he was the lead in "Queen of the Damned," and one of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," but, well, we know what happened to those, and Townsend hasn't had much luck in recent years. Dougray Scott, meanwhile, was meant to play Wolverine in Bryan Singer's "X-Men," but had to bow out when "Mission Impossible 2"...

Comic-Con '11: Guillermo Del Toro & Ron Perlman Keep Hope Alive For "Epic, Gigantic" 'Hellboy 3'

Ron Perlman Hints That He'll Be In 'Pacific Rim'Of the many, many, many projects Guillermo Del Toro has in various states of development, the one fans tend to ask about the most is "Hellboy 3." So no surprise that at the FilmDistrict panel this afternoon at Comic-Con, where Del Toro was talking up "...

'Babel' Oscar-Nominee Rinko Kikuchi Bags Female Lead In Guillermo Del Toro's 'Pacific Rim'

Comic-Con is nearly upon us: we're only two weeks away from the descent of the geek world on their San Diegan Mecca, although many have been worried, considering Marvel's decision to skip Hall H this year, that there wouldn't be much worth going for. But Legendary Pictures, backers of "The Dark Knight," "300" and "Clash of the Titans," have announced that they're taking four big projects to the Coachella of sci-fi/fantasy, and the press release is unusual for two reasons: firstly (and more on this shortly) not an inch of film will have been shot on any of the four, and secondly, because they've left slip a major piece of casting on the most i...

Guillermo Del Toro "Not Giving Up" On Adaptation Of H.P. Lovecraft's 'At The Mountain Of Madness'

The fall of Guillermo Del Toro's attempted James Cameron-produced adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "At The Mountain Of Madness" has been somewhat redeemed by the helmer's gestating monster-flick "Pacific Rim," which now has Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day and Idris Elba all set to star, but if we got anyt...

Idris Elba Taking Over Tom Cruise's Role In 'Pacific Rim'

So, what was that tweet all about? At the end of May, Idris Elba took to his Twitter and cryptically tweeted, “Having one of the biggest meetings of my professional life today…meeting a very controversial director for a very controversial part.” He followed that up with, “I wish I could tell you mor...

Guillermo del Toro Would Also Like To Direct ‘Maleficent’ (If Given The Chance)

Guillermo del Toro might be distinguishable to many for his rotund physique, but he’s better known these days, production-wise at least, for stretching himself too thin. Since his last film -- 2008’s “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” -- he famously hotfooted it from “The Hobbit” over a year ago, citing production delays even before MGM declared bankruptcy, though he’s yet to get started on a new project, even as Peter Jackson’s two-part epic began production earlier in the year. Conventional logic would dictate that del Toro’s long overdue for getting a Spanish-language “one for me” out of his system along the lines of “The Devil’s Backbone” and ...

Idris Elba Sought For Guillermo Del Toro's 'Pacific Rim'

Every now and then there is a story of an actor who has worked hard for years, slowly building acclaim on the back of strong performances matched by a just as tenacious work ethic. One of those people right now is Idris Elba. He had almost a decade of experience under his belt when he took on the role of Stringer Bell in the acclaimed HBO series "The Wire" and from there, things began to snowball until suddenly he seems to be everywhere. He's already got another hot television series on the other side of the ocean in "Luther," he played Heimdall in the box office hit "Thor" and he's currently working with Ridley Scott again (he was in "Americ...
