J.J. Abrams Sticking To His Guns; Not Adhering To Pre-Set Release Date Strategy For 'Star Trek 2'

J.J. Abrams continues to arouse and confuse the geek film community more keenly than even Lt. Uhura’s famed erotic fan dance from “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier” to distract a patrol of the Galactic Army of Light could manage. After months of avoiding the question of whether he’ll direct “Star Trek 2” like Little Miss Muffet avoids arachnids, Abrams has finally made known the world that he’ll helm the second instalment…but he won’t be sticking the planned release date set by studio Paramount. Just yesterday we learned that a less appealing sequel that nobody asked for – “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” – had been earmarked to take over the film’s J...

J.J. Abrams Says 'Star Trek 2' Might Not Be Able To Make Its June 29, 2012 Release Date

With at least fifteen sequels already planned for release in 2012, the biggest question mark of them all remains "Star Trek 2." Currently, the film is still pegged with a June 29, 2012 release date but with J.J. In fact, it was only a couple of weeks ago that reports surfaced that the film would be pushed to a winter 2012 release date. J.J. Abrams spoke with press today in advance of Friday's release of "Super 8," and Playlist writer Leah Zak was on h...

Will Decide On Whether Or Not He Directs Once He Gets A ScriptWhile there is some hand-wringing going on in the industry about whether or not oversaturating the market with (shitty) 3D movies will kill interest in the format with audiences, let's not kid ourselves. Hollywood loves 3D. It's a shiny new spectacle that gets asses into seats, and it may even help with with dwindling home video sales, providing a pretty compelling reason for those who are not yet Blu-ray converts to make the switch to the only home video format that supports three dimensions. However, despite the lemming like attitude by most directors to run to the latest gizmo, ...
