SXSW: Paul Reubens Says Judd Apatow Is Swearing Him To Secrecy On The Plot Of The Pee Wee Movie

Actor Wants To Use CGI To De-Age His FaceEver since it was revealed that comedy giant Judd Apatow would be producing and possibly directing a new, Pee Wee Herman movie, interviewers have been trying to squeeze details out of Apatow without much luck. Recently, all Apatow would confirm is that it wouldn't be a direct sequel and the film would exist very much in a world of it's own without necessarily reflecting to previous films. However, Paul Reubens has proven to be much more chatty about the gestating film and in a panel conversation this afternoon at SXSW, the actor revealed that as much as he wanted to spill the beans, Apatow's iron grip ...

SXSW Review: James Gunn's 'Super' With Rainn Wilson & Ellen Page Is Twisted, But Uneven

“Shut up, Crime!” bellows Rainn Wilson in “Super.” Such a random demand is highlighted by the outsized appearance of the speaker, clad in thick red fabrics, stocky and pear-shaped within a makeshift superhero costume. It serves as a power fantasy for him, a power fantasy for us. As seen through the...

SXSW Review: 'Attack The Block' An Intense, Entertaining Alien Invasion Pic Buoyed By Its Young Cast

Claustrophobia breeds suspense in science fiction, whether it be on a dank space ship like in “Alien” or a distant desert outpost like Richard Stanley‘s “Hardware.” In “Attack The Block,” which shares some DNA with the two films, we experience what might be a global invasion of serious concern, but ...

SXSW: Duncan Jones Calls 'Mute' His 'Don Quixote' & Talks About His Next Cityscape Sci-Fi Project

Calls His Next Film "Big Sprawling Fun"SXSW is underway which means we'll be spending the next week or so in Austin catching movies, talking with talent and trying to find space for beer and BBQ somewhere in the there. The festival kicked off last night with Duncan Jones' highly anticipated follow-up to "Moon," the time looping thriller "Source Code." It was received quite well from audiences who hit the screening last night and today and the director and cast ran the press gauntlet answering questions about the film. Naturally, with news arriving just before the festival that the director's long-gestating dream project "Mute" was headed the ...

SXSW Review: 'Source Code' Is A Decent, But Familiar 'Groundhog Day' Meets Action, Sci-Fi Thriller

When Duncan Jones' mysterious debut feature "Moon" was released back in 2009, the Internet collectively collapsed under the weight of its own enthusiasm. Jones was heralded as a bold new visionary, someone to rescue the tired sci-fi genre from the Hollywood trappings of big-budget spectacle. And whi...

SXSW '11 Trailer: 'Blacktino' With Danny Trejo, Jeff Fahey, More

SXSW gets underway in just a few weeks with an especially stacked film lineup this year, from more high profile premieres (“Source Code,” “The Beaver,” “Paul”) to festival favorites from Sundance and TIFF (“Win Win,” “Beginners,” “Being Elmo: A Puppeteers Journey”). For more homegrown fare, the fest has its “Lone Star States” category for films made in or about Texas which is kicking off the festival with “blacktino” by first-time filmmaker Aaron Burns. The indie coming-of-age film may sound slightly familiar to some due to a viral stunt late last year for “Citizen Jane,” supposedly an action packed remake of Orson Welles classic “Citizen Kan...

SXSW Film Fest Adds 'Attack The Block,' Spike Jonze's Arcade Fire Short, 'Insidious' & More

'Hobo With A Shotgun' & More Added In Midnight & Shorts ProgramSXSW is just over a month away and the organizers down in Austin have revealed the rest of their already staggeringly large lineup. The Midnighters should provide genre fans with some big thrillers, and perhaps the most exciting film of the bunch, making its world premiere, is Joe Cornish's "Attack the Block." Featuring mostly only U.K.-known actors, the alien invasion pic will pit a group of teenagers against extra-terrestrials and it will feature a soundtrack by dance-poppers Basement Jaxx. Nice. Meanwhile, "Saw" creator James Wan will try and scare you silly with "Insidious" (w...
