Magnolia Picks Up 'Take This Waltz' With Michelle Williams & Seth Rogen For Summer 2012 Release

Five years after the excellent drama "Away From Her," Sarah Polley delivered her sophomore directorial effort "Take This Waltz," premiering it to critics and audiences at TIFF last month and the reception was mixed. Described by James Rocchi -- who gave the movie an A grade review -- as "a modernist version of a late ‘60s or early ‘70s relationship film," the film stars Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen, as a young couple who struggle with monogamy and fidelity, as the former is torn between her husband and a new man. Sarah Silverman and Luke Kirby round out the film that has been described as sexually frank (and somewhat explicit), but braci...

The Return Of Whit Stillman, 'Twixt,' Brad Pitt's 'Moneyball' & More: Midway Check-In With TIFF 2011

Running from September 8-18, we're essentially at the midway check-in point of the Toronto International Film Festival. Keeping up with all of the reviews is nuts, hell keeping up with our own reviews is taxing.

TIFF '11 Review: Sarah Polley's 'Take This Waltz' Has Insights And Edges Sharp Enough To Stab

In Sarah Polley's Toronto-set drama "Take this Waltz," Margo (Michelle Williams) stumbles across Daniel (Luke Kirby) on a business trip, only to find he lives across the street; despite being married to Lou (Seth Rogen), Margo can't stop thinking of Daniel. Or maybe it's because she's married to Lou that she can't stop thinking of Daniel … Following up "Away from Her," Polley's second film is sharply dividing critics and audience in Toronto: Many find it simultaneously exhilarating and depressing; others find it ugly and hateful; a third faction seems to be kicking against the film not for how it says what it says, but, instead, for what it ...

Watch: 3 Clips From Sarah Polley's 'Take This Waltz' With Michelle Williams & Seth Rogen

As far as breakout directorial efforts by young actors go, Sarah Polley's moving and beautiful "Away From Her" is about as good they get. Based on a short story by Alice Munro, the film chronicled the effects of Alzheimer's on the relationship of an elderly couple with the maturity and grace of a di...

More photos from the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival of course. New Look: Seth Rogen & Michelle Williams In Sarah Polley's 'Take This Waltz'

Considering that her directorial debut, "Away From Her," was extraordinary, earning its star, Julie Christie, an Oscar nomination (and really, she should have won the thing, beaten at the last by Marion Cotillard), we've been eagerly awaiting the sophomore film from Canadian actress Sarah Polley for...

Clint Mansell Scores BBC TV Soccer Pic 'United'; Jonathan Goldsmith Tunes Up 'Take This Waltz'

While next week's "Source Code" will be without a score by Clint Mansell who left the project citing scheduling conflicts and was replaced by Chris Bacon, the composer is certainly busy. Last month he was hired to score the videogame "Mass Effect 3" (take that Roger "video-games-aren't-art" Ebert!) ...

    The Playlist's 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2011 - Part 1

That’s right, 2010 is already in our rear view and we’re looking far, far ahead into 2011. If 2010 was the year of audiences rewarding original, smart blockbusters (“Inception”) and punishing glossy, but empty big-budget tentpoles (“The Tourist,” “Tron: Legacy”) the new year will find studios hoping once again that comic franchises and sequels can bring in the big bucks. No less than five comic-book movies are on the way with “Thor,” “Captain America,” “Green Lantern,” “Green Hornet” and “X-Men: First Class” all swinging into thea...
