Weekend Box Office: 'Fockers' Shows 'True Grit', Outduels Cowboys (But Not For Long)

2010 ended with a whimper with most studio execs facing an uncertain 2011, as the year closed with eight consecutive weekends of box office earning lower than its 2009 counterpart despite five major 3D releases goosing prices. Of course, 3D is a gimmick, but it’s foolish to consider that each of those five films were relative underperformers due to disinterest in the format when even the most ardent fan must admit to subpar product. Of course, the industry is always looking for a scapegoat when the answer is clearly, “terrible movies are being made and should not be,” so the disappearance of 3D (not likely) will happen before a sudden spike i...

Weekend Box Office: Audiences Say 'Fock' Off To 'Little Fockers,' 'Gulliver's Travels'

Every once in awhile, we look at the numbers and hope, pray that the weekend is emblematic of an attitude amongst the public. They’ve had enough, we predict, and moviegoers are no longer going to accept subpar product. This winter has led to that assumption being made repeatedly, as audiences have r...

Weekend Box Office: 2010 Ending With A Whimper As 'Narnia' Fades, 'Black Swan' Rises

The winter box office is proving to be a bummer for the major studios. A year after “Avatar” ran the table, allowing “The Blind Side,” "Sherlock Holmes" and “Alvin And The Chipmunks” to pick up the scraps on the way to $200 million domestic totals each, audiences have been rejecting the winter 2010 ...

In Theaters: 'The Tourist,' 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader,' 'The Fighter'

After last week's huge post-holiday box office drop, Hollywood will attempt to steer the ship back on course with a couple of high-profile new releases this weekend. Two of the world's biggest movie stars, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, team up for the goofy international espionage thriller "The Tourist," which doesn't have too much competition for the adult dollar this weekend--at least at the multiplex. Fox reignites the 'Narnia' franchise without co-financing from Disney, after the disappointment of "Prince Caspian" with "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader." The 3D inflation should help the film do decent numbers, bu...

Review: 'Voyage Of The Dawn Treader' Is A Cruise Ship To Inanity

In “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader,” we return to the Pevensie siblings and their adventures across the mystic lands. However, because the last film, “Prince Caspian,” didn’t exactly set the world on fire, we get everything at a discount: hence, instead of four Pevensies, w...

Watch: Yet Another Trailer For 'The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader'

A Title So Long, We Couldn't Fit A Joke In The HeadlineWe've quite enjoyed some of the "Harry Potter" films. And yet, we're still fairly apathetic every time one rolls around -- maybe it's the sheer volume of the series. So you can imagine the giant collective shrug that comes from The Playlist team...
