Peter Jackson Confirms Orlando Bloom's Return As Legolas In 'The Hobbit'

While this was largely expected to happen, the last time we heard from Orlando Bloom about his possible (inevitable) reprisal of Legolas in "The Hobbit," the actor played it safe. During the press rounds for "Sympathy For Delicious" Bloom told us, “My fingers and toes are crossed, but, yes, I’ll be ...

Martin Freeman Reveals That 'Sherlock' Co-Star Benedict Cumberbatch Will Join Him In 'The Hobbit'

One of the many, many early difficulties facing Peter Jackson's two-part prequel to his "Lord of the Rings" series, "The Hobbit," was that "The Office" star Martin Freeman, the director's first choice for the lead role of Bilbo Baggins, was committed to shoot a second series of the BBC's hit Arthur Conan Doyle reboot "Sherlock" this summer. If you haven't seen the show, from "Doctor Who" head honcho, and "The Adventures of Tintin" scribe, Steven Moffat, and former "League of Gentleman" member Mark Gatiss, it's pretty ace: there was one duff episode in the first three, but the other two were smart, funny, genuinely thrilling and an entirely su...

Stephen Fry To Play The Master of Laketown In 'The Hobbit'

"The Hobbit" has been filming for over a month now -- indeed, the film's Bilbo Baggins, Martin Freeman, has finished his first block of shooting, and departed back to the U.K. to film the second season of "Sherlock." But that doesn't mean that the casting process has wrapped up -- not entirely surpr...

Lee Pace Joins 'The Hobbit' As Elven King Thranduil, Dean O'Gorman Replaces Rob Kazinsky As Fili

Considering its long, troubled pre-production beset by delays, a change of director, and even health problems for Peter Jackson, we're glad that filming on "The Hobbit" has now commenced and things seem to be running fairly smoothly. With one exception, that is: last weekend, it was announced that British actor Rob Kazinsky had dropped out of the film. Kazinsky had been cast as Fili, one of the 13 dwarves that accompany Bilbo Baggins on his quest, but withdrew due to "health issues," although it's worth noting that Jackson has recast on his films before, replacing Stuart Townsend with Viggo Mortensen on "Lord of the Rings," and Ryan Gosling w...

Orlando Bloom Still Not Confirmed For 'The Hobbit,' But It Appears To Be An Inevitability

A minor update on "The Hobbit" for you fanatics. Despite the fact that Orlando Bloom wasn't really accepting questions outside of Mark Ruffalo's directorial debut, "Sympathy For Delicious" today, the film he was promoting -- earlier in the press day he apparently had gently scolded a journalist for ...

British Actor Rob Kazinsky Bows Out Of 'The Hobbit' For Personal Reasons

Man down on Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit." Though we must say, that "curse" talk is somewhat unsubstantiated. Yes, the labor strike woes were difficult, but all big endeavors take a long time to get to the screen. OK, this particular birth hasn't been exactly easy, but it is the eight-years-after-the...
