Watch: 4 Clips From Terrence Malick's 'The Tree Of Life'

It's hard to believe it was just over a week ago that we finally saw Terrence Malick's "The Tree Of Life" when it made its long awaited premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. While we did have some issues with the film, which we elaborated on in our review, of any film we saw at Cannes, it's still on...

Palme d'Or Winner 'The Tree Of Life' Goes Wide July 8th; Full Rollout Release Dates Revealed

We have to admit, when it was announced yesterday that Terrence Malick's "The Tree Of Life" walked away from Cannes with the Palme d'Or we were a bit surprised. The long-awaited film got a mixed reception on the Croisette and we expected a unanimous crowdpleaser like "The Artist" or "Le Havre" to walk away with the honor instead. But undoubtedly, nothing else at Cannes this year matched the ambition or scale of "The Tree Of Life" so on that basis alone the award fits. In any case, Fox Searchlight are definitely pleased as punch to be on able to add Cannes to their marketing campaign and it puts a fresh eye on the film in advance of the platfo...

First Listen: 3 Clips From Alexandre Desplat's Haunting Score For 'The Tree Of Life'

While the overblown Lars Von Trier-Nazi-gate has quickly raced to the top of the Cannes headlines, you might recall that earlier this week a guy named Terrence Malick finally unveiled his highly anticipated "The Tree Of Life." Even days later, for those bumping into each other around the Croisette, the first question seemed to be, "What did you think?" Well, in addition to our review from the festival we had a lot to more to say about the film that though a bit a uneven, still contains pockets of brilliance, awe-inspiring visuals and a thematic reach that simply is unlike anything being attempted in mainstream or indie cinema. In short, it's ...

More Thoughts & 3 More Reviews Of Terrence Malick's Luminous, But Uneven 'Tree Of Life'

Yes, you've read our initial review of Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life," but we've got a few more, simply because it's a film that demands discussion and contrary to popular belief, members of The Playlist do not share a brain or utilize hivemind thinking, but three writers from the site saw the...

Cannes Review: 'The Tree Of Life' Is Terrence Malick's Universe-Spanning Search For God

It's a bit unfair, after years of waiting and anticipation and with a world of expectation weighing on the film, to begin writing a review of Terrence Malick's "The Tree Of Life" just minutes after leaving the screening this morning. With nearly as much time spent in line waiting to get in as watching the actual film, we would have preferred a bit more of a chance to let it linger and marinate (and perhaps more thoughts will follow in the coming days). But let's get a couple of things out of the way to start with. Firstly, "The Tree Of Life" is not the cinema-changing, soul-shattering masterpiece it has been built up into. That said, it's a h...
