Debating Eclipse and Knight and Day with At the Movies' Phillips and Scott

Apparently my defense of James Mangold's Knight and Day so astonished At the Movies' Michael Phillips and A.O. Scott that the co-hosts asked me to debate the subject with them online via Skype; we also tangled a bit on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which Scott liked, but Phillips loathed.

Carell Leaves The Office, Forbes' Most Powerful Celebs, Top Gun Sequel, Paramount Breaks Records

-It will be a sad day in TV history when Steve Carell ends his reign as Michael Scott when the 2010-2011 season of The Office wraps in May. While walking the red carpet for the premiere of Despicable Me last night, he confirmed to E! that the end was in sight. "I just thought it was time for my character to go," he said, now that his seven season contract is almost up. He doesn't see it as a "huge deal." He actually believes it is a good thing, a chance to add "new life" to the show. With the strong ensemble cast and writers, he has no doubt "it'll continue as strong if not stronger than ever." Sorry Steve, but the Michael Scott faux-humilit...

Cruise vs. Cruise, Kimmel Rides Zipline, Knight and Day B.O.

Compare the real Tom Cruise doing stunts on Jimmy Kimmel -- and the fake Tom Cruise below. @TomCruise is all over Twitter with his blog posts. Not missing a trick. (Again, I think he should pull back on trying to get people's attention.)

The Most Tolerable Works of Tom Cruise: A Retrospective

While this weekend's "Knight & Day" is on the early track towards being a bomb (or at least to be totally fair, it's underwhelmed so far) and is surely not Tom Cruise's finest work by a long shot (though it does have its charms), the picture does remind us that the while an international star, the c...

My latest career watch column takes on the fascinating case of one-time mega-star Tom Cruise, who has fallen on hard times in recent years and bids for a major comeback in the summer popcorn action comedy Knight and Day, which opens June 23. What will it take to turn this career around? Here's a tas...

Knight and Day: Early Reviews Are Mixed

I find myself rooting for James Mangold's Knight and Day, which functions better as a breezy summer popcorn rom-com than an action-packed chase movie, as Justin Chang of Variety points out:

MTV Movie Awards: Bullock Should Have Kissed Betty White, Eclipse Clip, Cruise and JLo Dance

As I've said, most awards shows are about people promoting themselves. Wouldn't it be a great idea to get the three stars to intro the Twilight: Eclipse video? (It's below, along with clips from the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Last Airbender, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.) Let's hav...

Cruise Reprises Tropic Thunder Grossman Role

Tom Cruise dons producer Les Grossman's hirsute fat suit once again for the MTV Movie Awards, which air on June 6. One video shows a hairy post-Scientology Cruise assaulting an older Cruise reenacting the young Risky Business Cruise. An unintentional meta-enactment of his entire career? He also da...
