The Best Movie Music Moments Of 2013

As some of you may know, The Playlist started out way back as a music-influenced movie blog and while our horizons have expanded exponentially since then, we like to keep a finger in that pie, and hope that we’re never remiss in giving the often overlooked audio component of the cinemagoing experien...

The Playlist Staff's Most Overrated And Underrated Films Of 2013

You have to be especially careful with the words “overrated” or “underrated.” Some people don't like the terms, thinking that they're condescending or snide, elevating your own opinions over those of the majority. And arguably they have a strong point, but the words do serve a purpose—how else is a ...

Review: Lynn Shelton's 'Touchy Feely' Starring Rosemarie DeWitt, Ellen Page & Josh Pais

There's a strange and opaque energy coursing through the veins of Lynn Shelton's languid fifth feature-length effort, "Touchy Feely." It's a little mysterious, to the film’s moody credit, and it’s a little unavailable and removed, to its detriment. Lead actress Rosemarie DeWitt admitted, "I didn't r...

Interview: 'Touchy Feely' Director Lynn Shelton Talks Her Meditative Film, Cronenbergian Deleted Scenes & More

A different form of improvisation is felt in “Touchy Feely,” the fifth feature from Lynn Shelton; instead of the loose outlines and dialogue of the director’s recent films (“Your Sister’s Sister,” “Humpday”), it’s the film’s subjective and technical experience that feels crafted on the spot and ceme...

10 Films To See In September

We’ve entered September, the point where the films aren’t bombastic enough for summer (but not outright crap reserved for August), and don’t have the longevity or clout to be remembered come Oscar time. Ten movies made the cut, along with a swath of honorable mentions, so September might be a good t...

Interview: 'Touchy Feely' Star Rosemarie DeWitt On Reverse Character Arcs, Gil Kenan's 'Poltergeist' Remake & More

A last-minute casting switch may have led actress Rosemarie DeWitt to Lynn Shelton’s fourth feature “Your Sister’s Sister,” co-starring Emily Blunt and Mark Duplass, but the gamble paid off tremendously — so much so that Shelton envisioned DeWitt specifically when it came to writing her follow-up, “...

Fall Movie Preview: The 30 Indies You Must See

Summer is essentially over. Maybe not by the calendar, but certainly when it comes to Hollywood. The "Grown Up 2"s and "The Hangover Part III"s have come and gone, and for anyone who likes a mediocre $200 million-budgeted film aimed at teenaged boys, you're out of luck for at least a few month...

Watch: Trailer For Dramedy 'Touchy Feely' Starring Rosemarie DeWitt, Ellen Page & Scoot McNairy

Premiering at Sundance earlier this year, "Touchy Feely" was a movie that didn't quite connect with us (read our review). That being said, this new trailer for the movie reminded our reviewer of the great moments contained within, and this cast is certainly worth seeing in any movie, no matter what.

Interview: Lynn Shelton On 'Touchy Feely,' Improvisation & Having Catherine Keener As A Casting Director

It's exciting at the moment to see some of the names who broke out of the independent scene in the middle of last decade -- the filmmakers often lazily grouped under "mumblecore," people like Mark and Jay Duplass, Joe Swanberg, Ry Russo-Young, et al. -- getting to play on bigger canvases with big na...
