Eddie Murphy Turned Brett Ratner On To The Classic Heist Films Before Making 'Tower Heist'

And More From The Director & Cast Of The High Concept ComedyIn Brett Ratner’s “Tower Heist,” Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy lead an ensemble cast in a story of wronged hotel employees who decide to seek revenge against a ruthless financial world maven who has run off with their pensions. A comedy, heist flick and even a triumphant middle finger to the swindlers that put many out of house and home (though the filmmakers say the ties to current events were unintentional), the film is a crowd-pleasing confection about the little guys finally getting one over on those in authority. A solid supporting cast including Alan Alda, Tea Leoni, Casey Affle...

Review: 'Tower Heist' Is A Slickly Made, Socially Conscious Romp

With major protests occupying cities all over the globe and unease about the financial stability of the establishments who swear to protect our hard-earned money reaching an all-time high, it's sort of interesting that "Tower Heist," a ludicrously expensive big budget commodity, can offer some kind of catharsis to ease our worried souls. But, this comedic thriller, which stars a bunch of movie stars that make more in one movie than most Americans make for their entire lives, does just that: it lets us laugh off our neuroses (and, for 104 minutes, that might be enough). The fact that it's a reasonably entertaining, slickly produced trifle is t...

Sorry Folks, You Will No Longer Have The Opportunity To Rent 'Tower Heist' For $59.99

So, did you have November 25th marked down on your calendar with plans to gather family and friends, and order up "Tower Heist" in your home all for the price of $59.99? Looks like you'll have to send out an Evite letting people know those plans have been canceled.

Cinemark Vows To Boycott 'Tower Heist' If Universal Continues With VOD Plan

As expected, Universal's premium VOD plan that probably won't work anyway, is ruffling some feathers with theater owners. Just to recap, the studio announced yesterday that in Portland and Atlanta, they would be running a test program where three weeks after Brett Ratner's "Tower Heist" hits theaters, the movie would be available for viewing right in your own home via Comcast VOD all for the low, low price of $59.99. Obviously, for theater chains who have bee continuing to battle against the shrinking windows between theatrical dates and online/video bows, this was a massive slap in the face. Already reeling from the still unresolved 3D glass...

Watch: 'Tower Heist' May Cost $60 On VOD, But You Can Watch This New Trailer For Free

So is the timing on this coincidence or bad luck? Depends on which side of the fence you're on, but the question is, after watching this new trailer for "Tower Heist," do you think it's worth forking over $59.99 to watch it at home a few weeks after it hits theaters? Yeah, probably not.

Would You Pay $59.99 To Watch 'Tower Heist' In The Comfort Of Your Own Home?

Yeah, We Wouldn't EitherAnd so the dance between the major studios and movie theater owners continue, and no, we're not talking about the 3D glasses debacle. You might remember that earlier this year a legion of filmmakers -- Michael Bay, Kathryn Bigelow, James Cameron, Michael Mann, Todd Phillips, Guillermo del Toro and more -- issued an open letter to the industry in support of movie theaters, as the major studios were pushing a plan to make movies available on VOD sixty days after their hit theaters. Well, they tried it anyway. Launching on DirecTV, a handful of movies including "Unknown" and "Just Go With It" were made available for $29.9...

Watch: Ben Stiller Hires Eddie Murphy To Help Him Steal $20 Million In Brett Ratner's 'Tower Heist'

Yep, this is a Brett Ratner film and honestly, if you swapped out Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy and put in Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, you would essentially have "Rush Hour 4." But we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves.
