Robin Williams Hosting the 58th Academy Awards : Before hosting the Academy Awards turned into a marathon of not only length but intense (and often unfair) scrutiny, Williams deftly took the reins in 1986 as a fast-talking, charming, and effective host. He wore an amazing white tuxedo and tie, with a hair-do only a man with incredible comic abilities could pull off. In the clip below, Williams appears at the six-minute mark to make his first introduction, and then gets a big laugh from the crowd (including James Garner and Meryl Streep) around 9:30 when he brings "a man you've never heard of but you have to listen to anyway [...] Mr. Jack 'Boom Boom' Valenti," the then-president of the Academy, on stage.
