NY Productions" "Tic" Wraps; "Origin" Is Born

Two films in various states of production, one wrapping and one rolling,
are on the New York area scene. The former, the new film by director
Gary Winick (“Sweet Nothing”) and writer/co-star Polly Draper (TV’s
“Thirtysomething”), “The Tic Code” has recently wrapped shooting in
Manhattan and Brooklyn. Along with Draper, the film stars Gregory Hines
and newcomer Christopher George Marquette, and revolves around a 12
year-old piano prodigy (Marquette as Miles) with Tourette’s Syndrome and
his relationship with one of his jazz idols, saxophonist Tyrone Pike

The film has a notable lineup of costars, including Carol Kane (“The
), Tony Shaloub (“Big Night”), Fisher Stevens (“Hackers”), Bill
Nunn (“Extreme Measures”) and David Johansen.

Just beginning its shoot is the debut feature by Andres Heinz, the
winner of the 1995 Mobil Prize from NYU, “Origin Of The Species.” Written by Robert Weston Ackerman and based on his play, the film is an ensemble
piece involving six 30 year-old college friends who gather at the same
summer house they’ve rented for the past ten years. Once there, they
encounter several life altering situations and events that help them all
discover what it is to finally grow up. The cast includes several young
notables, including Elon Gold (TV’s “Dana Carvey Show”), Amanda Peet (“She’s The One”), Jonathan LaPaglia (TV’s “New York Undercover”) and Jean Louisa Kelly (“Mr. Holland’s Opus”). The film is a production of NYC-based
Nickoll Arcade Films by frosh producer David Nickoll, recipient of the
1996 Sundance Institute’s Mark Silverman Independent Producer’s
Fellowship, and is being DP’d by Stephen Kazmierski (“The Myth Of
). The production is shooting in Armonk, NY.
