Ten students were selected from a field of 150, as the finalists in the “Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker’s Award.” The competition began as 150 original scripts were submitted by filmmaking students from five universities and colleges around the country. Ten individuals were notified yesterday that they have been chosen as recipients of $5,000 to make the script into a 60-second trailer. Each screenplay was conceived under the theme, “movies or the movie-going experience.”

The finished films will be viewed by a panel of 17 industry experts, among them: directors Alison Anders, John Singleton and Milos Forman, mogul Michael Ovitz, and critic Leonard Maltin. The winner will receive a $10,000 grand prize and the winning movie will be screened, according to organizers, in up to 75% of all movie theaters around the country.

The finalists in the competition are: Adam Phillips (Columbia University), Branislav Bala (Columbia University), David Nippert (North Carolina School of the Arts), Kyle Michael Newman (NYU), Jeffrey S. Yorkes (NYU), Cy H. Christiansen (NYU), Joshua Waggoner (USC), Jennifer Van Goethem (USC), Shawn Kerkhoff (USC), Aaron Bitzer (USC).
