The Hollywood Film Festival is moving the dates of its second annual event
from October to August, 1998. The event is now set to
open at the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel on August 3rd, and culminate with an
awards ceremony on August 8th, when the Hollywood Discovery Awards will be

In a conversation with indieWIRE, festival co-founder Carlos de
Abreu related their reasons for shifting the dates of the festival. “We had
a meeting after the festival and invited all of the filmmakers. They felt
that to have the festival in October, right before the London Screenings
and MIFED was a disadvantage for buyers.” In addition, Abreu added that
several distributors indicated that a late summer date would allow them to
acquire films with enough time to prepare marketing materials for Fall
markets. In addition, an August date is clear of other LA fests, with the Los
Angeles Independent Film Festival taking place in April and the AFI Festival
unspooling in October, directly after last year’s Hollywood fest dates.

In addition to the Hollywood Discovery Awards, the fest also includes a
film market and a symposium, called the Hollywood Conference, where film
industry professionals gather to participate in panels on a variety of
