IFC Big on Johns, Sundance Channel's Advice to the
Lovelorn For February

The Sundance Channel and The Independent Film Channel are rife with
premieres in the coming months, with the IFC launching the second season of
John Pierson’s “Split Screen” on April 6th and premiering a new series on
June 15th based on the “Fishing With John” series of short films by John
Lurie. The Sundance Channel, meanwhile, is preparing an alternative to the
Valentine’s Day tradition of going home from work, watching “The Way We
” or a hockey game and eating yourself sick on Chinese food and Hagen

Throughout February, Sundance will be presenting the “Sundance Channel
FilmFest: Tainted Love
,” a “slightly skewed look at the fragile workings of
the human heart.” The centerpiece of this fortnight-long series of films is
the world television premiere of Richard Linklater’s latest pic, “SubUrbia
on the dreaded day itself, February 14th. Other films in this mini-fest
include Doug Liman’s “Swingers“, Eric Schaeffer’s “If Lucy Fell” and two
classic films: Terrence Malick’s “Badlands” and Liliana Cavani’s “The Night

The IFC, on the other hand, is gearing up to once again present its
exclusive broadcast of the Independent Spirit Awards on March 21st and will
again be the exclusive U.S. outlet to broadcast the opening and closing
ceremonies of the 51st Cannes Film Festival live on May 13th (opening) and
24th (closing). In addition, during the month of May, the IFC will present
only films that have screened at Cannes as a tribute to the festival. This
tribute will include the world television premiere of David Cronenberg’s
Crash” as well as screenings of Mike Leigh’s “Naked“, Atom Egoyan’s
Exotica” and Ken Loach’s “Ladybird, Ladybird“.
