Miami Fest Lush with U.S. Preems

The 15th Miami Film Festival is set to kick off on January 30th with the
U.S. premiere of “The Chambermaid and the Titanic“, a
French/Spanish/Italian co-production directed by Bigas Luna, and will close
on February 8th with the top grossing Italian film of all time, Leonardo
Pieraccioni’s uproarious comedy, “Il Ciclone“. Other highlights of the fest
include spotlights on 85 year-old master filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni
and Japanese director Takeshi Kitano. Antonioni’s final two films,
Identification of a Woman” and “Beyond the Clouds” and Kitano’s two most
recent films, “Sonatine” and the hauntingly beautiful “Hana-Bi

There are several U.S. premieres, including, as is usual for this fest,
several Spanish language films from Argentina and Spain. The Spanish
language U.S. premieres are Eliseo Subiela’s “Little Miracles” (“Pequenos
“) from Argentina, and Spain’s “In Praise of Older Women” (“En
Brazos de la Mujer Madura
“) by debut filmmaker Manuel Lombardero. The other
U.S. premieres are: Pavel Chukhrai’s “The Thief“, a Russian/French
co-production and the Russian entry in the Best Foreign Language Film
competition and Pal Sletaune’s Norwegian Best Foreign Language Film entry,
Junk Mail“. The other Best Foreign Language Film entries are Italy’s “The
Best Man
” by Pupi Avati (an October Films release) and Spain’s “Secrets of
the Heart
” (“Secretos del Corazon“) by Montxo Armendariz.

Other films at the fest include: Brigitte Rouan’s 1997 New York Film
Festival entry, “Post coitum“; Adolfo Aristarain’s “Martin” (“Hache“) and
Argentine/Spain co-production; Bob Gosse’s debut effort, “Niagara Niagara“;
Richard Kwietniowski’s 1997 NYFF entry, “Love and Death on Long Island,”
and David Mamet’s latest “nothing is what it seems” thriller, “The Spanish
