New Berlinger/Sinofsky Film to Air on ABC-TV in May

by Mark Rabinowitz

At the recent television press tour in Pasadena, ABC announced that acclaimed
documentaians Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky’s (“Brother’s Keeper“, “Paradise
Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills
“) latest effort, would air on the
network during May sweeps. The film (tentitively titled “Where It’s At: Rolling
Stone’s State of the Union
“) is a celebration of the seminal pop culture
magazine’s 30th anniversary.

During filming, Berlinger and Sinofsky travelled the country speaking with
such disparate groups of young people as the members of an Oklahoma garage
band, midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, political
activists, and residents of a Texas commune, among others. Their goal was to
find out what is in the hearts and minds of the youth of America and what
are their hopes and fears for the future. In addition to the young people,
the directors, along with Rolling Stone contributing editor Anthony DeCurtis,
had conversations with a group of cultural figures that could be called wide
ranging, to say the least. Joining the trio are: Fiona Apple, Beastie Boys,
Beck, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Walter Cronkite, Robert Kennedy, Jr., Courtney Love,
Marilyn Manson, Keith Richards, Salt-N-Pepa, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Wolfe,
among others.

“Where It’s At” was produced by Berlinger and Sinofsky and executive produced
by Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner along with Gary L. Pudney and Linn
Tanzman. The editorial music supervisor on the project was Anthony DeCurtis.
