“Eve’s Bayou,” which topped critic Roger Ebert’s 1997 top ten list,
remained atop the indie list this weekend, having earned more than $100,000
this weekend on 82 screens, bringing its total to $13,475,192. Also, two
distributors each placed two films in the indie top ten this week. Santa
Monica, CA based Strand had “Latin Boys Go to Hell” and “A Self Made Hero“
in the top ten, while NYC’s Zeitgeist Films had “Will it Snow for
Christmas” and “Fire” on the list.
Miramax took the top three spots in the other Top 5 with strong showings
from “Scream 2,” “Jackie Brown,” and “Good Will Hunting.” Finally, one film
entered the overall list this weeks — “Oscar & Lucinda” debuted on seven
screens nationwide earning $83,461 for a total of $137,163.
