The fourth annual Taos Talking Pictures Festival announced its lineup on
Monday, it offers over 45 feature films, including 3 world and 11 U.S.
premieres, along with numerous shorts and videos. This year’s edition
will open with Sundance award-winner “Smoke Signals.”

Directed by Chris Eyre and written by Sherman Alexie, “Smoke Signals” was an
audience fave at the recent Sundance Film Festival, taking home the Audience
Award and Filmmakers Trophy, which was voted on by the other competition
filmmakers. The film is also an upcoming Miramax release. Closing the fest
will be
Lutz Leonhardt’s Swiss/German co-production, “Zakir And His Friends.” In
addition to the regular program, the festival will feature awards and
tributes to
Juraj Jakubisko (“An Ambiguous Report About The End Of The World“)
Paul Schrader (“Affliction“), and Loretta Todd (“Today Is A Good Day“)
along with
screenings of the tribute films.

When asked about the rate at which the festival is growing, Festival
Director of
Programming, Kelly Clement told indieWIRE that this year’s edition was
“not much larger” that its predecessors, and that the festival’s “dilemma
every year
is to try to grow and expand but not lose that flavor that makes it so uniquely
Talking Pictures.”
