Slamdance Organizers Launch “Cannes You Dig It” Screenings

The organizers of the Slamdance Film Festival, along with Troma
and CRAP, the new world wide web merchandising company, are
launching a new event at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Entitled “CANNES
“, the event is currently set up to screen 2 shorts and 2 features
throughout Cannes, with receptions or parties also planned. Lloyd Kaufman’s
Troma is providing the screening space, promotional booths and marketing

indieWIRE spoke with Slamdance Executive Director Peter Baxter who
exclamed, “So we’re on!” adding that while the event is being put together
by Slamdance organizers, he was quick to clarify that “It’s not Slamdance in
Cannes, it’s “Cannes You Dig It?” in Cannes.” The two features currently
set for the event are “South Park” co-creator Trey Parker’s
“Cannibal… The Musical” and 1998 South by Southwest screener, “The New
” by James Boyd. The two shorts are Glasgow Phillips’ “The Sound of
One Hand Clapping
” (to screen with “Cannibal”) and Todd Downing’s “Dirty
Baby Does Fire Island,”
screening with “The New Gods.” When asked about
a possible expansion of the lineup, Baxter told indieWIRE that it was
“possible, but I doubt it for now.”

“Cannibal” screened at this year’s Slamdance Film Festival, and was also
a main impetus for the founding of Slamdance when it screened in Park
City the year before that festival launched.
