>> Women Make Movies, the national non-profit media arts organization that
produces, promotes, distributes and exhibits films by and about women,
has announced two acquisitions. Alisa Lebow and Cynthia Madansky’s
Treyf” is a documentary that is by and about two Jewish lesbians that
fall in love at a Passover seder. Joyce Warshow’s “Some Ground to Stand On
is a portrait of lesbian activist Blue Lunden. Domestic and international
festival bookings for the films are currently being finalized.

>> Avid Technology, Inc., the leading provider of computer-based video and
film editing applications, has signed an agreement to purchase SOFT
, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation. The
Montreal-based SOFTIMAGE is widely considered to be the leading
developer of 3D animation, video production, 2D cel animation and
compositing software solutions for the film, television and video
industries. Avid will now have the ability to bundle 3D and 2D animation
technology with its existing systems.

>> Caleb Sampson, the 45 year old musician and composer who wrote the score
for Errol Morris’ “Fast, Cheap and Out of Control“, died last week in
Massachusetts. For the past two decades Sampson has worked on the
music for a number of Boston-born indiefilms and by created musical
scores for classic silent films.
