Wrapping principal photography in Los Angeles is the Shooting Gallery‘s
production “The Minus Man,” the directorial debut of “Blade Runner” co-writer
Hampton Fancher. Executive produced by The Shooting Gallery’s Larry Meistrich
and written by Fancher based on a novel by Lew McCreary, the film stars Owen
Wilson (“Bottle Rocket“), Janeane Garofolo (“Permanent Midnight“), Brian Cox
(“The Boxer“), Mercedes Ruehl (“The Fisher King“), Dwight Yoakam (“Sling
“), Dennis Haysbert (“Love Field“), and the film debut of recording
artist Sheryl Crow. It is the tale of a mysterious, unassuming stranger who
stirs up trouble in a small rural town when his dark past comes back to haunt

The Pathe Production “The Darkest Light,” the directorial debut of “The Full
” screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, is currently shooting in North Yorkshire,
England. Written by Beaufoy, the film stars Stephen Dillane and Kerry Fox
(both of “Welcome to Sarajevo“) as the parents of two girls in a small
Yorkshire farming community who see an inexplicable vision they hope is a

>> Ripstein Making Marquez Movie in Mexico

A $2.2 million adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s classic magical realist
novella “No One Writes to the Colonel” is currently shooting in Veracruz,
Mexico under the direction of Arturo Ripstein (“Deep Crimson“), and starring
Salma Hayek (“54“), Marisa Paredes (“Flower of my Secret“), and Fernando Lujan
(“Deep Crimson“). The film is a tale of life in a decaying tropical town in
Colombia, centered around an aging army colonel, and is being produced by a
consortium of production companies including the Southern Fund, Tabasco Films
and Producciones Amaranta.

The Gus van Sant-produced “Speedway Junky” (Production Briefs 8/5/98)
has recently undergone a central cast change, as lead actor Jesse Bradford
(“Romeo + Juliet“) has departed due to “creative differences.” In an unlikely
move, he has been replaced by former “Home Improvement” star Jonathan
Taylor Thomas.
