>> IFP Presents Public Screening Series During IFFM

The IFP is presenting “20 Years of the Independent Feature Film Market”
from September 16-25 at Manhattan’s Anthology Film Archives, showcasing
ten films that received initial exposure at the IFFM. Beginning with
Down By Law” (Jim Jarmusch, 1986) and “My Dinner With Andre” (Louis
Malle, 1981), the series will screen two films per night for five
nights, with the lineup repeating for the second five evenings. The
other parings in the series are “The Unbelievable Truth” (Hal Hartley,
1989) and “Stand and Deliver” (Ramon Menendez, 1988), “Slacker” (Richard
Linklater, 1989) and “Metropolitan” (Whit Stillman, 1989), “Poison
(Todd Haynes, 1990) and “Daughters of the Dust” (Julie Dash, 1988), and
Clerks” (Kevin Smith, 1993) and “The Brothers McMullen” (Edward Burns,
1994). “Metropolitan” was nominated for a best original screenplay Oscar
in 1991, Edward James Olmos received a best actor Oscar nod for “Stand
and Deliver” and “Clerks” received the Filmmaker’s Trophy at the 1994
Sundance Film Festival.

Melanie Gasper, Executive Director of both the Enzian Theater and the
1998 Florida Film Festival, one of Central Florida’s leading exhibitor
of arthouse and independent films, is leaving the organization in order
to accept a position as Executive Director of the Central Florida
Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Serving as interim executive director in
the wake of Ms. Gasper’s departure will be Enzian Advisory Board member
and Florida Film Festival Special Projects Director, Peg O’Keef. Ms.
Gasper will continue to contribute to Enzian as a member of the
organization’s Advisory Board.

>> 5 International Composers To Conduct At Special Flanders Fest Event

The theme of the 25th Flanders International Film Festival-Ghent is
impact that music has on film. While music and film will serve as the
theme of the international competition, the festival will also present
Birth of a Score II, a concert featuring five renowned film music
composers. Dirk Brosse will conduct the Belgian National Orchestra in
the first part of the evening, highlighting films that have screened at
the festival over the past 24 years, including Ennio Morricone’s “The
,” David Raskin’s “Laura” and Brosse’s own “When the Light
.” In addition, Dutch composer Loek Dikker will guest-conduct a
suite entitled “Music for the Images,” featuring the themes from “The
Fourth Man
,” “Pascali’s Island” and “Slowburn.” Part two features
composers Edward Shearmur, Michael Kamen and Elmer Bernstein conducting
their own work. Shearmur will conduct “Wings of the Dove” suite, Kamen
will conduct “Robin Hood” suite, the theme from “Circle of Friends” and
the theme from “Don Juan de Marco” and Bernstein will conduct “The
Magnificent Seven
” suite and “The Age of Innocence” suite. The composers
will also discuss their methods of working. The evening takes place on
October 8th at 8pm at the Ghent Opera House.
