>> Fine Line Grabs Zehman/Blair Script; Macaulay/O’Hara to Produce

Scott Macaulay and Robin O’Hara of Forensic/391 Films will produce “Fresh
,” a new script by Josh Zehman and April Blair. The announcement was
timed to coincide with the Sundance Film Festival where Macaulay and O’Hara
are presenting “Joe the King,” the directorial debut of Frank Whaley. The
film, which they produced, is in the dramatic competition. The project is
described as “a black comedy about Nikki and Dina, two Italian-American
Princesses, whose material-girl world is turned upside down when Nikki’s
father knocks off Dina’s Mafia Capo father. [Eugene Hernandez]

>> Nava and New Line Make a Deal

Gregory Nava, whose landmark film “El Norte” is screening at Sundance this
weekend in the festival’s Sundance Collection sidebar, has signed an exclusive development
deal with New Line Cinema to “develop a slate of films geared specifically
toward Latino audience.” The deal is a two year pact that will encompass
both comedies and dramas, according to a New Line announcement made here at
the Sundance Film Festival. On tap for Nava’s El Norte Productions is an
adaptation of Victor Villasenor’s “Rain of Gold.” [Eugene Hernandez]

>> New DVD Company Announce First Project — “Film Fest”

A new DVD production company, entitled Broadcast DVD, have announced their
first project, a “DV Show” called “Film Fest.” Created by former
executives of the Short Cinema Journal, the company will sell their new DVD
ROM will offer films and coverage of film festivals worldwide. Set to
screen on the first 2 hour DV show are Ari Gold’s “Culture” and Christophe
Joly’s “10 Seconds,” as well as interviews, and festival coverage. Film
Fest is being sold through DVD Express. [Eugene Hernandez]

>> Jour de Fete Acquires “Sex”

Jour de Fete Films has acquired the North American rights to P.J.
Castellaneta’s “Relax…It’s Just Sex” which screened at the 1998 Sundance
Film Festival. Variety reported yesterday that the film will be released
this Spring in New York, LA and San Francisco, before expanding. Jour de
Fete is a small distributor of gay film titles that was formed by Dan
Castle and Strand Releasing’s Mike Thomas. Recent releases include
Leather Jacker Love Story” and “Broadway Damage.” [Eugene Hernandez]
